Our educational activities are consistent with the IMQ 2004 Standards for Commercial Support. The CEE provides education tools for the physician in the career-long continuing education process through updates of knowledge and skills; exchange of new facts; acquiring new skills; improving the attitude and conduct of the healthcare professional; incorporating new knowledge into clinical practice. With this education, our vision is to ultimately improve patient care.

    Deems Okamoto, M.D.
    A graduate of the University of Southern California School of Medicine, he served at Providence Hospital in Seattle, WA. The following 3 ½ years were with the Indian Health Service, USPHS, in Chinle, Arizona. On returning to Seattle, he became board certified in Family Practice in 1978 and Emergency Medicine in 1985. He has been in full-time Emergency Medicine since 1973 and currently is a staff Emergency Physician at the Swedish/Ballard campus of Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, WA. He volunteers in American Heart Association events and as an ACLS, ACLS-EP and PALS Regional Faculty and instructor. He is a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians and a member of numerous state and national medical societies.


    Paul Berlin, MS, NREMT-P
    Paul Berlin has been involved in providing EMS for more than 30 years, and worked up through the evolution of EMS from ambulance attendant to EMT to Paramedic. Paul currently holds a Masters of Science degree in Health and works as a Medical Division Chief for the Gig Harbor Fire Department in Washington State. Paul has been a volunteer with American Heart Association for 25 years and is a major contributor to the development of the ACLS-Experienced Provider material as well as the 2000 ACLS Provider and Instructor Manuals.


    Barbara Furry, RNC, CCRN, MS
    With twenty years of critical care nursing experience, Barbara Furry shares her passion for education and advances in cardiac care as owner and Director of The Center of Excellence in Education. She currently holds a Masters of Science degree in Health, and provides critical care education with a focus on serving rural and suburban healthcare practitioners. Ms. Furry is the American Heart Association immediate Past-Chair, Emergency Cardiovascular Care; and has been a Board member with a variety of volunteer AHA leadership roles since 1986. She actively participates in AHA events as an ACLS, ACLS-EP and PALS Regional Faculty member and instructor. She is immediate past-president and Fellow of the American College of Cardiovascular Nurses.
